Business number

It is important that all conferences and councils obtain a Business Number from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Someone from CRA has been invited to give a presentation at our AGA in June, in Toronto.
Extract from Revenue Canada website: Under no circumstances should a registered charity lend its registration number to another organization for receipting purposes. A registered charity is responsible for all tax receipts issued under its name and number and must account for the corresponding donations on its annual information return. A charity that lends its registration number risks losing its charitable registration.
The parish, which your conference is attached to, cannot issue receipts for donations to the conference. The conference should have its own registration number.

This is a way to share information, thoughts, detail and support for the varied projects of members. There are many ways one can work that best suit the Vincentians personality, physical condition, age, available time, etc. Members can be lost when put in roles they are uncomfortable, unqualified or bored.

I agree with Denise. I've visited national website lots of times and have not found any thing new. I believe that anything happenin' should be posted. If it happens to be info about a particular conference...then so be it. I just like to hear new things goin'on and not an outdated website. Bring us all in on the same page. Keep information current.

The new site looks good! Thank you to those responsible. My suggestion: Let's try to get some kind of new material into the on-line format on a regular basis, whether it's stuff from individual conferences and counsels or inspirational material or ??? From my personal point of view, I am more likely to re-visit any site regularly if I find something new and different there. When I've visited several times and found nothing new, I tend to drop out.

Could we start a dialogue about the importance of all conferences getting their OWN Business Number (BN) from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)? Someone from CRA will speak at the AGA soon and we may have to "put a push on" to achieve this.

Agree with Dave, the process is assisted by the Naitonal Council (forms,advice, etc. ) and is sure nice to be able to issue receipts to donnors. We cannot do it thrugh Parish.
